From January 1, 2022. Standard UK import procedures and mandatory UK GVMS registrations will apply.
Until the end of 2021, the British administration applies simplifications to customs clearance of goods imported from the European Union, enabling them to postpone the submission of customs declarations. In practice, this means trouble-free entry to Great Britain on the pre-Brexit rules.
1st January 2022
The facilities will cease to apply, and the most important change awaiting carriers is the entry into force of import clearance in the UK.
It will be necessary to register each carrier performing transport to the UK in the GVMS (Goods Vehicle Movement System) system.
Registration in the GVMS system will allow you to generate GMR numbers for British import clearance in ports after 01/01/2022 – in addition to the current MRN for export (EAD / EX) or transit (T1 / T2) documents.
From 01/01/2022 without a valid GMR number – the vehicle will not be able to enter the port. The need to generate a GMR number from the GVMS system applies to each transport (both export and import from Great Britain).
All this means nothing less than that, now it is necessary to agree with your customers – who and where and under what customs procedure will carry out import clearance of cargo in the UK after 01/01/2022.
If you decide to register for GVMS and generate GMR on your own, below is a guide prepared by HMRC, in which you will find, among others:
– how to register in GVMS,
– how to create a GMR,
– how to avoid and possibly correct the most common mistakes.
