Dear valued customer,
Following an announcement in the Westminster Parliament on 28/04/2022, it has been confirmed that the next stage of UK Custom controls due from 01/07/2022 has now been cancelled and business has been told that they can now cease their preparations for July.
Specifically the below planned controls for July will not now be introduced and no further controls on EU goods will be introduced this year.
• A requirement for further Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) checks on EU imports currently at destination to be moved to Border Control Post (BCP).
• A requirement for safety and security declarations on EU imports.
• A requirement for further health certification and SPS checks for EU imports.
• Prohibitions and restrictions on the import of chilled meats from the EU.
However, please note – Controls currently in place will remain in place, so there will be no change from the status quo as at today.
The UK Govt statement acknowledges that the July controls would have resulted not only in costly & complex checks, but also that these controls themselves would in turn have to be changed once the UK’s new transformation programme is applied.
The new programme will cover the UK’s Global trade and apply equally to all goods regardless if of EU origin or ROW (Rest of the world).
An Operating model setting out this new regime of Border controls will be published this Autumn, targeting the end of 2023, and this will also become part of the overall “2025 Borders strategy”
